Our mission, our goals, and how we plan to achieve them. The Candela Foundation is dedicated to shaping the future of optics and photonics in Poland.
Our mission is to help the youth that work with optical and photonic sciences in Poland to develop these areas on a national and international scale.
We consider that optics and photonics are fundamental technologies of the 21st century – from telecommunication through medical diagnostics to quantum computation and sustainable energy. By fostering the community of professionals working on these subjects, we are contributing to the future of Polish science and economy.
Self-organization and taking part in events that are of great significance to the Polish science community form the basis of our actions. We do not wait for changes to occur – we create them!
This is the frequency of monochromatic light that defines the candela, which is the SI unit of luminous intensity. It is the frequency at which the human eye is most sensitive, corresponding to greenish-yellow light with a wavelength of approximately 555 nanometers.
Our name represents our link with this basic and timeless tenet of the science of light, showing our dedication to factual and practical progress within the realm of optics and photonics.
Our vision is that of Polish optics and photonics becoming internationally known and respected for their excellence and innovations.
It is crucial that all young researchers in Poland have access to everything they need to excel in the fields of optics and photonics.
Polish researchers must become active members of the international photonics community, exchanging information, learning from other researchers around the world, and making connections beyond their country's borders.
It is our objective to break new ground in optics and photonics via workshops, seminars, and publishing to help science contribute to society.
Our commitment is to build a vibrant community where scientists, entrepreneurs, and students can come together, exchange ideas, and establish professional connections.
We strive to raise awareness of the significance of optics and photonics in people’s lives and in the future development of technology in Poland.
Our goal is to make our events and resources accessible to all, and we work hard to eliminate any barriers such as financial, geographical, language and other barriers that may hinder participation.
Optics and photonics have a very rich legacy in Poland, where there are both leading research organizations and an increasingly strong industrial base.
Poland’s contributions to the fields of optics and photonics include advances in fundamental science, technology, and industry. From laser physics and nonlinear optics to photonics for telecommunications and medicine, as well as cutting-edge areas such as quantum technology, Polish scientists have made significant contributions to the world of science.
There are some obstacles that this area encounters: • Lack of funding opportunities for young scientists, • Geographical restrictions to international cooperation, • Lack of ties between academia and industry. In order to overcome these problems, the Candela Foundation was created.
By organizing events, providing scholarships, and maintaining communication networks, we will be able to support the Polish photonics community in building connections and reaching its full potential.
The principles that underpin every decision we make.
We have published our financial statements, resolutions and accounts for income and expenditure for greater transparency.
Our organization is diverse, inclusive, and non-discriminatory, ensuring that everyone can participate.
Our flexible structure helps us adapt swiftly to the changing demands of the community.
It is safe to state that our young group understands the real-life situation in the Polish optics and photonics industry and that we focus on helping people who are just starting out in their careers.
